2. Hughes takes it to the house

A few weeks ago, the Vikings’ 2018 first-round pick probably wasn’t expecting to play too much in the team’s Week 1 matchup against the 49ers. But thanks to a few injuries in the Minnesota secondary, Hughes was on the field for most of the team’s defensive snaps (79 percent) on Sunday.

The Vikings’ rookie corner had a couple of hiccups in coverage against San Francisco. But for the most part, Hughes held his own on Sunday.

And when 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo tossed the football right into his hands in the third quarter, the Minnesota rookie made sure to catch it and return it 28 yards for a touchdown.

It was a rookie debut that is certainly among the most memorable in Vikings history.

Obviously it wasn’t as impressive as Randy Moss’ or Dalvin Cook’s first games in a Minnesota uniform.

But Hughes’ pick six definitely deserves to be among the top 10 plays by a Vikings rookie in their regular season debut.

Minnesota’s decision to select a cornerback with their first-round pick back in April’s draft looks like a good one so far.
