Round 5: Juwan Johnson, wide receiver – Penn St.

The Vikings have some great pass catchers in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, but chances are the players after them on the depth chart may not be around for the 2018 season if they are looking to save some money or have given up on some other players.

Johnson has a lot to offer. The 6-foot-4 and 231-pound pass catcher should be an appealing target for a quarterback but lacks the offensive output to be selected among the elite players at his position during the 2018 NFL Draft.

He didn’t really show up until his third season at Penn State, when he exploded for 701 yards but only got one touchdown. In his first 6 games of the 2018 campaign, he has already scored a touchdown but has 293 yards.

If the team is able to bring back players like Laquon Treadwell or Adrick Robinson, they may not go after a pass catcher. Still, saving some salary cap in hopes of giving out some extensions might be the wise way to go at the position.

Other options for fifth-round selections:

  • Kelvin Harmon, WR – NC State
  • Mark Fields, CB – Clemson
