Marcus Sherels – PR/CB

Marcus Sherels has been a great story for the Vikings. The guy seems to be on the roster bubble every single season, but always makes the team. Sherels just does so many little things well and he is an extremely valuable special teams player.

What Sherels brings to Minnesota’s special teams more than makes up for his lack of coverage skills on the defensive side of the ball.

As the Vikings’ punt returner, he has an uncanny ability to make the first man miss and pick up a couple yards when it looks like he’s either going to get no gain or end up with a negative return. It also seems like Sherels will bust a long one when Minnesota needs it the most.

There can be games where the Vikings as a whole are sluggish and then Sherels provides a big return that wakes the team up. He’s also great on punt coverage as he is often the first man down the field making the tackle or downing the punt.

It’s hard to see a team other than Minnesota paying Sherels a contract that is worth what he brings to special teams.

The one to worry about though would be the Cleveland Browns as former Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer signed with them last month as their new coordinator. Obviously, there is a connection with Sherels and Priefer and he could possibly convince the Browns to bring in the special teams ace for 2019.

Hopefully, Sherels will want to stay home and finish his career with Minnesota. But he could also look for a bigger paycheck.
