5 free-agent wide receivers the Vikings could sign in 2019
By Adam Patrick
Pierre Garçon
2018 Stats:
- 24 catches
- 286 yards (11.9 average)
- 1 touchdown
Like Demaryius Thomas, Garçon is another veteran receiver in his 30s who is coming off a season cut short by an injury. Due to numerous injuries, Garçon has actually only appeared in a total of 16 games during the last two years.
Prior to signing with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, the veteran receiver spent five seasons as a teammate of current Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins when both were members of the Washington Redskins.
During his time with the Redskins, Garçon experienced some of the best performances of his entire NFL career. With Cousins throwing him passes in 2016, the veteran receiver finished the season with 79 catches for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns.
Garçon’s experience with Minnesota’s quarterback and with the offensive schemes the team is expected to implement in 2019 make him a good candidate to possibly become their third receiver next season.
His recent trouble with injuries is a little worrisome. But before 2017, Garçon didn’t miss a game for four straight seasons. So he might have just run into some bad luck during his time with the 49ers.
He was scheduled to make around $8 million in 2019 before San Francisco recently declined his option for next season. Given his age and his recent injury problems, the Vikings should be able to sign Garçon this year without breaking the bank if they want to bring him in.
