5 free-agent cornerbacks the Vikings could sign in 2019
By Matt Falk
Jason Verrett
2015 Stats:
- 47 tackles
- 12 pass breakups
- 3 interceptions
This former first-round selection was once looked as one of the best up and coming corners in the NFL. Unfortunately for him, injuries are what he is now know for.
He has only played in five games over the the past three seasons thanks to injuries. Anything that could go wrong with him has (knee, shoulder, Achilles).
That said, there is a ton to still be excited about Verrett. He is still only 27-years-old and when he has been healthy, he has been a true shutdown cornerback.
The former TCU Horned Frog will most likely get plenty of interest in free agency this offseason. Teams around the NFL will no doubt be looking to sign him to a short-term prove it deal. I could see Verrett being hungrier than ever, wanting to show fans that he still has it.
The reason he fits into the Vikings having possible interest is the fact that he will most likely only be getting offers on short-term cheaper deals. Verrett won’t cost a ton and the gamble is minimal.
If he did happen to come back and play at the level we saw from him during his first two seasons in the league, the payoff would be enormous. Imagine this guy tossed into a Minnesota secondary that is already considered one of the best in the NFL.
