David Amerson

2018 Stats:

  • 21 tackles
  • 2 pass breakups
  • 1 interception

David Amerson is another guy that has bounced around the since being drafted in the second round by the Washington Redskins in 2013. The once highly touted corner out of North Carolina State has become a bit of a journeymen that has proven he can be a starter in the league (61 starts in seven years).

Even when teams flat out release him, there always seems to be a handful of teams just waiting to scoop him up. It’s easy to see why since he has the size and coverage ability that makes him very attractive to cornerback-needy teams.

What turns teams off about Amerson is his past with injuries, which have cost him quite a few games during his career, and his inconsistent play. At times he looks like a real shutdown corner and other times he looks like a complete liability. Teams just have to know if they have him on their roster, they should be ready for a roller coaster ride.

I could see Amerson as an option for the Vikings if they feel that Holton Hill still needs additional time to groom or if Mike Hughes recovery time isn’t where they would like it. I don’t see Amerson as a guy Minnesota signs just to sit on the bench. If the Vikings were to sign him, it would be to play.

He will most likely be looked at this offseason as a middle of the road type free-agent, where he’ll have teams interested, but I can’t see him commanding a ton when it comes to the dollar bills.
