It’s always nice to see undrafted free agents work hard to earn a roster spot on an NFL team. That sentiment is especially true when it comes to special teams ace and backup cornerback Marcus Sherels.

A Rochester, Minnesota native who played his college football at the University of Minnesota, Sherels’ success with the Vikings is something everyone around the Land of 10,000 Lakes had to feel good about.

While Sherels acts as an emergency cornerback on the team’s roster, his real value comes on special teams, where he acts as the team’s punt returner and on coverage units for kickoffs and punt returns.

Sherels is the Vikings’ franchise leader in punt return yardage and punt return touchdowns.  As of the end of the 2018 NFL season, he has accumulated 2,447 punt return yards and five return touchdowns. Sherels should continue to build on those numbers, as his time with the team hasn’t yet come to an end.
