Predicting where the Vikings’ free-agents will sign in 2019
By Nik Edlund
Aldrick Robinson – WR
Aldrick Robinson was signed by the Minnesota Vikings after Week 2 of the season. He performed far above expectations and showed a good rapport with quarterback Kirk Cousins, hauling in 17 balls, five of which went for touchdowns.
Robinson isn’t big but does have great speed. The 30-year-old wide receiver will have a lukewarm market at best. It makes sense for him and the Vikings to come back to Minnesota and compete for that third wide receiver spot.
Prediction: Minnesota Vikings
Trevor Siemian – QB
The Vikings traded for Trevor Siemian during the offseason last year as an experienced backup for Cousins. He was that, but he was also awful in the preseason.
Siemian was outplayed by a far margin by young Kyle Sloter. He did hold on to the backup job, but as of now, it looks like Sloter’s job to lose.
Siemian won’t be back with the Vikings and it’s hard to see him getting many offers in free agency. He likely will stick in the league for at least another season, but the AAF could be in his future.
Prediction: Houston Texans
Ameer Abdullah – RB
The Vikings landed Ameer Abdullah late last season and used him as their primary kick returner. He wasn’t terrible, but he didn’t do anything memorable either. It’s hard to see him coming back and it is hard to see many teams blowing up his agent to schedule a visit.
He is only 25, so the chances are high some team will offer him a prove-it type of deal.
Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles
Minnesota Vikings
George lloka – S
The Vikings brought Iloka in just before the 2018 season started. Many fans figured he’d be the starter next to Harrison Smith, but that didn’t happen.
Anthony Harris emerged and Iloka was delegated to a backup and special teamer. He clearly wasn’t happy with that and he will definitely not be coming back to the Vikings.
Where he ends up will be the question. There are plenty of teams with needs at safety, but the market is saturated. Iloka is a player who might not be signed until after the draft, but he’s only 28-years-old and will get picked up prior to training camp.
This one is going to be like throwing a dart and seeing where it sticks.
Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers
