The best Vikings selection from each year of the 90s at the NFL Draft
By Adam Carlson
1992: Ed McDaniel, linebacker – Round 5 (pick 125 overall)
The Minnesota Vikings don’t exactly have an amazing track record of making great selections in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. However, every once in a while a later selection can work out well for the team.
Ed McDaniel played his entire nine-season career with the Vikings where he played in 125 games, starting 109 of those. He didn’t get his first start until his third season in the league, but after that, he didn’t let go of the job.
From 1994 through 2001, he was a staple of the team’s defense where he proved to be an effective tackler as well as pass rusher who got 19.5 sacks on his career and accumulated 794 combined tackles.
McDaniel was also known for going after the football. With four interceptions, he showed off some soft hands. However, he also attacked ball carriers, causing 15 fumbles and recovering five for his team.
Honorable mention: Brad Johnson, QB – Florida St. (Round 9)
