Defensive MVP – Honorable Mentions

The defensive line struggled with the beefy, talented blockers of Dallas. However, the team did excel in stopping the run, making Ezekiel Elliot look like a pedestrian running back and not the massive star that he is.

Meanwhile, the performance from the secondary was uneven as well. The team gave up a lot of short plays and even a few big ones, but they also had eight pass defenses on the day and closed the game with an interception.

Here are some of the defensive standouts from this game who weren’t quite the MVP from Week 10 against the Cowboys:

  • Mike Hughes, cornerback – Early on, it looked like Hughes was going to get picked on all day long. As the game went on, the young cornerback found his groove, defending two passes on the day while adding seven tackles, all solo.
  • Everson Griffen, defensive end – One of the toughest things to watch from this game was seeing the Cowboys offensive line work so well. Even though Griffen only had a half-sack on the day, he landed four hits on Dak Prescott and forced the Dallas quarterback to move around the pocket.
  • Eric Kendricks, linebacker – His play to slap the ball away from Ezekiel Elliot will be the highlight of his night, but he was third on the team in tackles with six (two solo), often getting to the Cowboys running back to help bring him down or slow progress.
