Trey Adams – OT (Washington)

Trey Adams absolutely has the potential to be a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. His injury history is what will cause general managers to not look his way. But he has all the talent in the world and he would lock up the left side of the Vikings offensive line.

By just about all accounts, the current offensive line for Minnesota has been greatly improved since the previous year. They’re opening up some good size holes for Dalvin Cook to run through and they’re also doing a good job protecting Kirk Cousins.

Cousins has been sacked just 22 times, which ranks near the lowest in the NFL. He’s also been hit just 55 times which ranks near the lowest in the NFL as well. With the improvement on the line this year, the Vikings can afford to wait a little bit on drafting on offensive linemen until the middle rounds of the draft.

Adams has a lot of tools that make him an intriguing option as a left tackle. The idea would be to move Riley Reiff inside to guard and bench Pat Elflein and allow the rookie Adams to start at left tackle.

Adams would bring a lot of strength to Minnesota’s offensive line. He has a great anchor that makes him nearly impossible to move off of his spot. He gets really good depth with his pass sets and he recovers well to inside moves.

He can move laterally extremely well. He’s not a tremendous athlete by any means, but he does a lot of things technically well and he would provide some much-needed depth for the Vikings’ offensive line.

The fact that Minnesota’s line is playing fairly well this year should make their fans more comfortable with waiting for a guy like Adams in the middle rounds of the draft. The Vikings just have to hit on the offensive linemen that they actually do draft.
