More good stuff

Heading into this game, I was talking about how home-field advantage for the Chargers wasn’t going to be a huge factor in this game since it was essentially a neutral playing field. Well, I underestimated the number of Vikings fans who would be in the audience on Sunday.

There were SKOL Chants erupting from the crowd. Fans were yelling “BOOOOOONE” for the backup running back for Minnesota. And the Chargers struggled to hear some of their plays thanks to the crowd noise.

This was essentially a home game for the Vikings thanks to the ocean of purple and gold in the stands. And it was a more than pleasant surprise for fans watching the game at home as well as inside Dignity Health Sports Park.

Here are some other good things to come out of Week 15 for the Minnesota Vikings:

  • Filling in well. With Dalvin Cook leaving the game and Alexander Mattison sidelined this week, the rushing attack was led by Mike Boone. Boone had 13 carries for 56 yards, finding the end zone twice. The depth at running back is real for Minnesota, who also got five carries out of Ameer Abdullah for 25 yards.
  • That defense though! Mike Hughes got picked on for a little while, but the entire defensive deserves so much recognition for closing down everything during this contest. The line got pressure on a consistent basis, linebackers made important stops to not allow yards after the catch, and the secondary made plays on the back-end for a complete game.
  • Another week, another long play. Stefon Diggs continues to make his case for being among the league’s elite pass catchers. This time, he had a 46-yard catch that was the highlight of his four grab, 76-yard night. His play also allowed Adam Thielen to ease into action on his return from a hamstring injury.
