Wide Receivers

Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen

One of the many stories throughout the decade was the rise of unheralded wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Thielen arrived on the team in 2014 (and I’m sure you know where he went to college) and carved his way into the starting lineup after starting his career on special teams. Diggs was also not a blue-chip prospect, but started making plays after he arrived the following year as a fifth-round draft pick.

Five years after they played their first season together, Diggs and Thielen have become one of the best (if not the best) pass-catching duo in the league. Thielen has become a local hero hailing from Detroit Lakes, catching 323 passes for 4,315 yards and 25 touchdowns and Diggs has become one of the most popular players on the team after hauling in the Minneapolis Miracle and making 365 receptions for 4,623 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Outside of Diggs and Thielen, the wide receiver position was a wasteland for the Vikings, but could have been even better had they opted to take Michael Thomas over Laquon Treadwell in the 2016 NFL Draft. Alas, Viking fans have to be pretty happy with what they have and both Thielen and Diggs have been a steady target no matter who the Vikings have put under center this decade.
