Safety

Here’s another position that will be affected by free agency for the Vikings in 2020. Anthony Harris, Jayron Kearse, and Andrew Sendejo are all free agents after the season and this makes Harrison Smith the only safety guaranteed to return in 2020.

To be honest, having just Smith back there would be better than a handful of safety duos in the NFL, but Minnesota won’t let that happen. They will likely do all they can to bring Harris back, but the depth afterward will be very scant.

Kearse has already made it pretty clear that he isn’t coming back to the Vikings next season. It’s hard to blame the guy, as he could make some nice money and be an effective starter on another team. Sendejo is 34-years-old and he probably won’t be coming back in 2020. So Minnesota will look to the draft to round out the depth for the position group.

This is probably a position the Vikings will target in the draft anywhere from rounds three to seven. They could take multiple safeties, as they just don’t have any depth for 2020 on their current roster. As far as names go it’s anyone’s guess at this point, but Minnesota will fatten up their safety depth chart in April, and that is a guarantee.
