Gary Kubiak

Gary Kubiak is probably the option to most likely slide into the offensive coordinator role for the Vikings in 2020.

Kubiak has already worked with Stefanski and the weapons on Minnesota’s offense for the past season. The Vikings’ commitment to the running game, their zone-blocking scheme, and utilization of the screen game were all aspects that Kubiak helped implement in 2019.

When he came over from the Denver Broncos last year, he brought a lot of his staff with him. His son, Klint Kubiak, and Rick Dennison are already on Minnesota’s staff and they have worked with Gary for years. So the transition wouldn’t just be smooth from an offensive play-calling standpoint, but also a lot of the same coaches from last season would carry over.

The biggest hang-up with Kubiak becoming the new offensive coordinator for the Vikings is if he actually wants the job. He seems content being Minnesota’s assistant head coach and offensive advisor and watching things unfold from the comfort of his booth up in the rafters.

It’s unclear if he would want to take on the full-time responsibility of being the primary play-caller for the Vikings and deal with all of the weekly press conferences and stress that would come along with the role.
