It feels like the Vikings are more likely to stay in house to find their next offensive coordinator than to look outside the organization for someone to take the job.

If Gary Kubiak isn’t interested in the role, then maybe Rick Dennison would be. Currently, Dennison is Minnesota’s offensive line coach and run-game coordinator. While the Vikings offensive line was up and down in 2019, the rushing attack was leaps and bounds better than it was a season ago and it was a huge part of Minnesota’s offense this year. Dennison had a lot to do with this turnaround.

Dennison has bee an NFL offensive coordinator in the past. He held the role when he was with the Buffalo Bills during the 2017 season. That year, the Bills’ offense wasn’t great as they finished 18th in points and 26th in yards, but they really didn’t have a ton of weapons for Dennison to utilize.

If given the keys to the Vikings’ offense, Dennison would likely implement a west coast system that would heavily utilize both Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison in the team’s rushing and passing attack. The transition would be a smooth one and the offense would probably look very similar to what it was this past season.

As far as candidates go, Dennison is definitely a backup option. But he’s a familiar one who would keep things relatively the same for Minnesota.
