Calvin Throckmorton – OT (Oregon)

When it comes to the offensive side of the football the Vikings will definitely look to beef up their line in the upcoming NFL Draft. They need to find the heir apparent to Riley Reiff at left tackle and they could stand to improve the overall depth of the unit.

An interesting prospect who will be taking part in the East-West Shrine Bowl game is Oregon’s, Calvin Throckmorton. He’s a big, powerful lineman standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 310 pounds.

Throckmorton can get to the second level quickly and make blocks downfield, which is perfect for Minnesota’s system. He’s an aggressive blocker who will battle until the whistle on every play. He is a bit heavy-footed and not a natural athlete, but his competitiveness makes up for some of that.

What could make this guy extra tempting for the Vikings is that he has experience playing multiple positions on the offensive line. He’s not only played snaps at tackle, but he has moved inside at guard from time to time. Linemen who can play multiple positions are highly sought after by teams and this could boost Throckmorton’s value a round or two.

At this point, he looks like a mid-round type of prospect with round three being his ceiling. How he plays this week against some top competition will go a long way in determining his final ranking.
