Amari Cooper

Amari Cooper is another big-time free agent wide receiver that the Vikings could look to bring in if they make any big roster moves this offseason.

It would take trading Stefon Diggs plus some other moves for Minnesota to get under the salary cap just like with A.J. Green. But the possibility with Cooper is there if the Vikings are desperate for another wide receiver to compliment Adam Thielen.

Cooper flourished after he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2018. In the 25 games he played with the Cowboys, he logged 132 catches for 1,914 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He was also very reliable during his tenure with the Oakland Raiders as well where he put up 3,183 yards and 19 touchdowns on 225 catches in 47 starts. A young receiver with these career stats doesn’t hit the free-agent market very often.

Cooper is now in search of his second contract in the NFL. Last year he made nearly $14 million and he will likely garner that amount plus some in free agency. He’s still only 25-years-old entering his sixth season in the league. You can bet that it’ll be difficult for the Vikings to sign him without seriously cleaning out some cap space.

But like with Green, if something happens with Diggs, Minnesota will need a receiver to compliment Thielen and Cooper would be the perfect candidate to step into Diggs’ current role.

Dallas still could like to re-sign Cooper to a long-term deal to keep the band together in 2020. They are projected to have a large amount of spending available to them this offseason, so it may be hard for anyone to outbid them.

But if Cooper wants out of Dallas and the Vikings need to fill one of their top wide receiver roles, he could be an option that they try to turn to.
