The Vikings may also want to take a closer look at former Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards for extra depth.

At 25-years-old, Edwards is heading into the prime of his career and he has huge upside in the way he can impact a game. He benefitted enormously from Lamar Jackson’s MVP performance in 2019 and the run-heavy offense implemented by the Ravens.

Edwards rushed for a total of 711 yards on 8.3 carries a game last season while averaging 5.3 yards per attempt. He could potentially command good money in free agency this year that might put Minnesota out of the running to land him.

If the Vikings are unable to agree to an extension with Dalvin Cook this offseason, then a contingency plan will need to be in place. That might be something worry about next summer, but Edwards definitely has the potential to be a lead back in the NFL if given the opportunity.

His ability to break tackles is something that really stands out and Edwards is fearless when running between the tackles to gain additional yardage.

His pass-catching does need improvement, but Edwards has also proved to be an exceptional blocker when others have the ball. This is another valuable trait to call upon and one that will impress potential NFL suitors on film.
