Jake Fromm – QB (Georgia)

The Vikings will need to begin searching for the successor to quarterback Kirk Cousins this year or next. A developmental prospect like Jake Fromm might be a good place to start.

Although the former Georgia Bulldog does not possess the jaw-dropping arm strength that seems to be the current NFL trend, there is plenty to suggest that Fromm can be a reliable starter given time.

He is an excellent decision-maker and he is extremely composed in the pocket while under pressure. Fromm’s vision, accuracy, and footwork are other notable traits that can easily make the step up to the next level less difficult.

Fromm is a proven leader that has performed well against imposing SEC defenses during his college career. There is a knock on his ability to throw downfield and he is not a willing runner when things are not there for him.

There are some similarities between Fromm and Kirk Cousins in that respect. It remains to be seen whether or not Minnesota would be willing to draft someone similar to their current quarterback going forward.

Fromm’s drop off in production last season behind arguably the best offensive line in college football is another concern, which has led to the perception of him just being a game manager by some.

These are not things he can dispel at the this year’s NFL Scouting Combine. A team like the Vikings will need to develop a great deal of faith in the quarterback in order to pick him in the second round come April.
