Cameron Dantzler – CB (Mississippi State)

The Vikings have serious deficiencies at the cornerback position this year. This will need to be addressed with multiple picks during the 2020 NFL Draft.

There is a potential that Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, and Mackenzie Alexander will not be around next season. Cameron Dantzler has been a solid starter at the college level for three seasons and he is someone who can contribute right away for Minnesota in 2020.

He has great size (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) and scope for a cornerback and this gets him out of tricky situations when he is out of position. Dantzler also moves well downfield with receivers and he matches up nicely in the red zone.

This would be especially beneficial to a Vikings secondary that struggled out wide in this area last season. Dantzler does need to brush up his technique and press at the line of scrimmage more as he does not possess elite speed.

One thing that does make him stand out is his competitiveness. Dantzler does not make things easy for a receiver in short passing situations. If he can keep his eyes on his target and not on the ball more consistently, then he is going to make it to the next level.

Minnesota does not have much margin for error when it comes to their secondary this offseason. The contract of Anthony Harris is also up for renewal and raises further questions about this important area of the field.

Dantzler has all the tools needed regardless of whether he is a No. 1 option at cornerback or not. It would be easier for his early development if this was not the case, but the Vikings might not have any other alternative by the time training camp comes around this summer.
