6 free-agent offensive tackles the Vikings could sign in 2020
By Dean Jones
Germain Ifedi
It is evident that Germain Ifedi’s time with the Seattle Seahawks is coming to an end following an inconsistent few seasons.
Seattle didn’t pick up the 2020 option on his deal and they have appeared to have moved on. This might be a good thing for the raw talent who has suffered his fair share of problems at the left tackle position.
One thing Ifedi does have going for him is his versatility. He can play at tackle or guard and he might be better suited to the latter going forward. The Vikings will be looking to go cheap where they can this offseason, which also puts the free-agent tackle in the picture.
Ifedi’s confidence might have taken a knock given his time in Seattle, but that is no reason for a franchise to not give him another chance. He has great hand strength, good athleticism, and an imposing frame. All the tangibles one needs to be a successful offensive lineman in the NFL.
Minnesota is known for taking chances on players out of form and turning their fortunes around. Should Ifedi come in on a short-term deal with plenty of incentives, then he will need to have an outstanding training camp and make the starting offensive line spot his own.
This is something Ifedi is more than capable of, providing he shows the fight and the ability to adjust that was not entirely evident during his time with the Seahawks.
