Zimmer is going to love this cornerback class

As much as the fantasy football fan in me would love to see the Vikings take a flier on a flashy wide receiver, Mike Zimmer is probably looking for a way to fix his stable of cornerbacks.

Last year, Minnesota saw Xavier Rhodes become a disaster and Mike Hughes not live up to his potential. Combine this with Mackensie Alexander and Trae Waynes both making their way toward free agency this offseason.

The good news is this year’s cornerback class is one that makes it a perfect time for the Vikings to have a secondary reboot. As the cornerback prospects go through their testing this week, it will reveal that this is a big, physical group that runs fast.

While Jeffrey Okudah will be off-limits, the possibility of Kristian Fulton, Trevon Diggs, and Jeff Gladney being there for Minnesota to select at pick No. 25 with another wave of talent coming in the later rounds with A.J. Terrell, Bryce Hall, and Noah Igbinoghene being candidates in the second round.

So what does this all mean for the Vikings? Well, if one has ever seen the Vince McMahon meme where he gets enamored with a big, flexing bodybuilder, that will probably be the same scene that plays out for Zimmer in Indianapolis this week.

Minnesota needs corners for 2020 and it might actually be their most pressing need this offseason.

Since Zimmer loves his cornerbacks, the secondary should be the odds-on favorite to be where the Vikings spend their first-round pick this year. If a certain corner impresses them at the Combine this week, Zimmer may just run onto the field and hand them a purple and gold jersey on the spot.
