Yetur Gross-Matos – DE (Penn State)

Yetur Gross-Matos is a supremely gifted athlete who has the potential to be a real star in the NFL. The Penn State prospect has everything one would want in a pass-rusher and he has provided two seasons of solid film that may see him emerge as a first-round pick following the evaluation process.

Gross-Matos racked up 17 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss during his final two college seasons and he has the type of burst and power that is a rare commodity.

Getting to the quarterback might be Gross-Matos’ specialty, but it is his ability to stop the run that also stands out on film and makes him an every-down player at the next level. His strength is at a super-human level and he has a dynamic ability to make a telling contribution on every play.

Although he does need to brush up certain areas of his game, there is nothing to suggest that Gross-Matos isn’t going to be an enormous success in the NFL. He has all the tools needed and he would fit in well at the Vikings as a 4-3 defensive end if Everson Griffen moves on to a new team this offseason.

Putting him alongside a premier pass-rusher like Danielle Hunter is a very enticing proposition and he would learn a considerable amount from one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL.

Not putting too much pressure on Gross-Matos right away might be the best way to go for any franchise that drafts him. Allowing him to adapt during his rookie year will do his long-term chances the world of good and ensure his enormous promise is fulfilled.
