6 potential landing spots for Xavier Rhodes after Vikings release
By Dean Jones
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are another option for Xavier Rhodes if they cannot afford to keep cornerback Byron Jones.
The former first-round pick is set to receive considerable interest on the free-agent market and with Dallas needing to pay the likes of quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper, there might not be enough money to go around.
Slotting a seasoned pro like Rhodes into the lineup in the event of Jones’ potential departure would give new head coach Mike McCarthy a solid option who can be relied upon to make plays, providing he does not go back to old habits that blighted his final two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.
McCarthy will know plenty about Rhodes from his time coaching the Green Bay Packers. With rotational cornerback C.J Goodwin also entering free agency, the Cowboys could be facing the need to add veteran depth at the position.
This would put Rhodes on a contending team that is never out of the headlines. If he could resurrect his diminishing career in Dallas, then this would come with significant financial benefits in the form of endorsements and considerably more national exposure than he ever received in Minnesota.
The Cowboys have underachieved enormously in recent seasons, so gambling their prospects on a player that is not guaranteed to play at a consistent level is up for debate. Any offer from Dallas will be hard to turn down for Rhodes given their scope for improvement under a new regime.
