Is Wilson worth re-signing?

If the Vikings can free up enough salary cap space, then re-signing Eric Wilson should be high on their list of priorities.

He knows the system Mike Zimmer has implemented and Wilson has adapted well to the pressures of playing for such a demanding defensive head coach.

The problem Minnesota has is if Wilson gets a lucrative offer from elsewhere. They have plenty of other needs that could be seen as more significant and committing more than the franchise wanted for the player is going to cause further financial complications down the line.

Wilson is more than capable of becoming an NFL starter for a longer period of time. He filled in well for the Vikings last season and he no doubt earned the trust of Zimmer and other coaching staff.

With so many changes expected on the defensive side of the ball in the coming weeks, giving Wilson more responsibility may see him thrive even further. That will come with its own risks, but the reward could be substantial.

Minnesota found a real diamond in the rough when they took a gamble on Wilson in 2017. He has repaid their faith with quality performances and it might be time for the Vikings to do the same with a new long-term deal this offseason.
