What to expect from Osborn in 2020

With the selection of K.J. Osborn, the Vikings’ renovation of the receiver room seems complete. With Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson on the outside, Osborn or Bisi Johnson can mix in the slot to provide Minnesota some options who can get down the field without having to deal with press coverage.

For next year, it’s unlikely that Osborn will have a massive impact. The Vikings seem content with running the ball and because of that, they run plenty of two tight-end sets as opposed to ones with three receivers on the field. That means Osborn could be on the sideline more than we expect at least to begin his career.

But for next year, Osborn’s biggest impact may be at punt returner. As previously mentioned, the Vikings tried to move on from Marcus Sherels last year, but Mike Hughes couldn’t make good decisions consistently enough to keep the job last season. By putting Osborn back there, Minnesota should have an upgrade in this area.

Osborn is a fit for the Vikings offense since he can get deep. But it will be interesting to see if his game can expand enough to become a consistent offensive threat.
