Home-field advantage is no longer that much of a perk

Eight road teams won matchups during Week 1 of the 2020 season. That’s 50 percent. This alone is not indisputable proof that home-field advantage is temporarily paused amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but it does show that a couple more road teams were successful, if only for a week.

With the Vikings, the lack of a home-field advantage against the Packers was both wildly evident and unfortunately detrimental. Aaron Rodgers drew Minnesota’s defensive linemen offsides a few times and it was apparent that he was able to dictate Green Bay’s offense with ease.

Minnesota will now try its hand at leveraging the lack of home-field advantage in its favor. Although the NFL permits some simulated fan noise, a comparison to the norm is laughable.
