For almost an entire decade, Marcus Sherels allowed the Vikings to not have any worries when their punt return unit jogged out onto the field.

Sherels averaged 10.5 yards per punt return in his 10 seasons with Minnesota and during this same time period, he also managed to turn five of those punt returns into touchdowns for the purple and gold.

Sherels is no longer on the Vikings roster and now the team is the worst in the NFL when it comes to returning punts. Minnesota has gained a grand total of 13 yards on seven punt returns this season and that has amounted to a pitiful 1.9 yards per punt return average.

K.J. Osborn and Chad Beebe are the guys who been returning punts for the Vikings this year. Who knows exactly why neither Osborn nor Beebe have been able to find success as a punt returner this season, but Minnesota giving the 33-year-old Sherels a call in the near future might not be the worst idea in the world.
