More Bad Things

This was an odd game. It started out with a lot of punting but quickly turned into a shootout of sorts before fizzling out in the final quarter.

Other bad things from Week 17

  • Was this actually a preseason game? A long second-quarter interview? Check. Super questionable calls from the officials? You know it. Players you’ve never heard of? Oh yeah! When there isn’t much at stake, it’s hard to stay focused on the game as a whole instead of the interesting stories within it.
  • Can we kick it? No, we can’t. Minnesota has to do something about their kicking. This game had one of the ugliest extra point tries in the team’s history. Plus, Dan Bailey missed another field goal this week as well. Expect something to happen to at least bring in competition at kicker this offseason.
  • Clean pockets. Once again, there was absolutely no pass rush from the Vikings to challenge Matthew Stafford and he had all day to pick apart the makeshift Minnesota secondary. This was by far the most embarrassing thing about the team this week and it has sadly been a trend this year.
  • Winning the wrong way. Victories are nice, but this one feels a little dirty. There were two calls that went against Detroit in this game that didn’t seem correct and those two plays could have made a huge difference in the outcome of this game. One was a roughing the passer call that wasn’t bad at all and the other was a touchdown catch that was overturned despite a real lack of evidence to do so.
