3 most disappointing Vikings rookies of the 2020 season
By Nik Edlund
K.J. Osborn – KR/PR
K.J. Osborn was easily the Vikings‘ worst and most disappointing draft choice from the 2020 class. Rick Spielman and the scouting department targeted this guy to fill a major hole and become Minnesota’s primary return man.
The Vikings took him in the fifth round despite many respected draft analysts not even thinking he would get drafted at all. There was some hope Minnesota knew what they were doing, but Osborn failed miserably in his role in 2020.
Osborn had just 27 punt return yards on the season. He didn’t show any knack for the role as he lacked the required burst, wiggle, and vision to succeed.
Osborn didn’t fare much better as a kick returner as he only had 303 return yards on 14 attempts. He was in and out of the lineup throughout the season, getting supplanted by the exact players he was supposed to replace.
Osborn also didn’t get a sniff on the field as a wide receiver. When Adam Thielen was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and he had to miss a game, it was Tajae Sharpe and not Osborn who was called up to active duty for the Vikings.
Osborn was extremely disappointing and of all the rookies drafted in the fifth round or higher by the Vikings, his return to the lineup in 2020 seems to be the most unlikely to happen.
