Romeo Okwara

2020 Team: Detroit Lions

After two years with the New York Giants, Romeo Okwara was given a tremendous opportunity by the Lions. Okwara quickly ended up making Detroit’s decision to claim him off waivers worth it in 2018 when he started in 14 games and finished with 7.5 sacks.

Last season, he set a new career-high with 10 sacks, and at 25-years-old, he’ll be looking to cash in during free agency this offseason. Will the Vikings be the team to give Okwara the offer he’s hoping for?

One thing that should separate him from some of the other defensive ends that are available in free agency this year is his experience in the NFC North. Okwara’s familiarity with some of the offensive linemen in the division might be something that causes Minnesota to be more interested in him over guys like Carl Lawson and Trey Hendrickson.

He’s finished with 7.5 sacks in two of the last three seasons, so he’s already proven that his performance in 2018 wasn’t a fluke. If the Vikings think Okwara is worth the lucrative contract he’ll be seeking this year, then meeting with him is definitely something they should consider.
