Shakedown, breakdown, takedown.

The preseason isn’t training camp or practice. When these games come along it’s time to start getting back to physical football by increasing the energy, hitting hard, and bringing down opposing ball carriers.

The lack of solid tackling and seeing some players not going full-speed was disheartening. These players need to know that roster spots are still up for grabs as are roles in all three phases of the game.

Even though it was backups and rotational players on the field for this game, they should have been motivated to show Mike Zimmer and the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff that they are ready for action and can do what is asked of them to earn a job this season.

Tackling and team drills will likely be a focus for the team heading into Week 2 of the preseason. Minnesota will need to clean up all phases of their game if they want to be competitive against the Colts on Aug. 21.
