Cook will sit out against the Lions

Since Dalvin Cook suffered an ankle injury in Week 2, Mike Zimmer has praised his running back’s toughness. But in last week’s loss to the Browns, Cook didn’t look like himself, generating 34 yards on nine carries and missing a large chunk of the second half.

Before last week’s game, Cook mentioned that he needs to be explosive to help the Vikings. That wasn’t the case last week and it may not happen until Cook takes an extra week or two to get back to 100 percent.

The Vikings should be able to handle the Lions easily and they have a capable backup in Alexander Mattison. After missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday, it seems like an obvious choice to give their star running back a week off.
