DaVon Hamilton – DT (Jacksonville Jaguars)

With the addition of Dalvin Tomlinson in free agency combined with the return of Michael Pierce after he opted out of the 2020 season, the Vikings felt they were going to have the second coming of the “Williams Wall” in the middle of their defensive line this year.

If anything, Minnesota was just hoping that their defense would be better at stopping the opposing rushing attack with Tomlinson and Pierce as their defensive tackles than they were in 2020.

Unfortunately, the Vikings haven’t seen any improvement in their ability to stop the run compared to last year. It might even be worse.

To help improve this problem of theirs, Minnesota should consider seeing what it would take to acquire defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hamilton is in his second season with the Jaguars and he’s been playing well against the run this year. In five appearances for the Jaguars in 2021, the 24-year-old defensive tackle has a run stop win rate of 48 percent, which currently ranks third among NFL defensive tackles.

Measuring in at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, Hamilton is currently listed as Jacksonville’s nose tackle. There’s no telling how long Pierce will be out with his current injury for the Vikings, and even when he returns, it wouldn’t be a terrible idea for Minnesota to invest in a nose tackle who is performing better against the run this season.
