Trade for Randy Moss in 2010

For a good number of current Vikings fans, Randy Moss is the player that got them into rooting for the team. Moss’ ability to take over a game at any moment during his first handful of seasons with Minnesota not only captivated the team’s fan base, but fans from all around the NFL couldn’t turn away from the excitement he provided each week.

Near the end of his time in the league, the Vikings actually ended up re-acquiring Moss in a trade with the New England Patriots midway through the 2010 season.

In order to land the legendary receiver, Minnesota had to send a 2011 third-round draft pick to the Patriots. At first, some felt like the Vikings made out great in this deal given the fact that they only gave up a third-rounder to acquire a player in Moss that was just coming off a 2009 season in which he caught 13 touchdowns.

However, his second stint in Minnesota only lasted four games. Former Vikings head coach Brad Childress made a terrible decision to part ways with Moss without really consulting any other members of the team’s staff. Unsurprisingly, this didn’t go over very well with most within the organization.

In his four games with Minnesota in 2010, Moss caught a total of 13 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. As quickly as Vikings fans pulled their No. 84 jerseys out when the Hall of Fame receiver was acquired from New England, they had to put them right back in storage before the season even came to an end.
