Mike Zimmer – HC

It didn’t take long for the knives to come out for Mike Zimmer following another game full of underachievement in Week 8. The head coach has become the scapegoat for good or bad, and no matter what happens between now and the end of the season, a big change could be coming where the Vikings are concerned this offseason.

Zimmer got some big decisions wrong against the Cowboys. And the fact this team remains so frustrating with every game seemingly going down to the final play no matter what the standard of the opposition actually is cannot continue for much longer.

A fresh set of ideas might be needed. It’s been a fantastic run for Zimmer full of ups and downs, but if playoff football doesn’t arrive this time, it might be best for all parties to go their separate ways.

Minnesota’s window for contending has been slowly shutting for some time now. The front office has papered over the cracks well enough for some success, but some near-misses might be all the Vikings have to show from the Zimmer era.

In truth, Zimmer is probably sick of a distinct lack of execution in key moments. And there’s a happy life awaiting him once he formally calls it a day.

But make no mistake, Zimmer will be doing everything in his power to steady the ship as long as he is still in the role. Whether he can rally the troops at this stage is another matter.
