7 free-agent running backs the Vikings could sign in 2022
By Adam Carlson
Gregory “Buddy” Howell – Los Angeles Rams
If the Minnesota Vikings like their first three running backs on the depth chart and want a player with the potential to fill in on special teams who is familiar with the team’s new head coach, Buddy Howell might be their man.
At 25 years old, Howell was an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic. He started out with the Houston Texans but made his way to the Los Angeles Rams just in time to play in ten games and earn a Super Bowl ring with the team.
Over his four seasons in the league, Howell saw action in 55 contests but never registered a single start. Despite that, he carried the ball 26 times for 65 yards and picked up three first downs while contributing mostly on special teams.
Buddy Howell could be a cheap addition to a team looking to round out a roster with solid special teams players in lower spots on the depth chart. Plus, if he was a player Kevin O’Connell liked in Los Angeles, that could be a good sign for him in the future.
