7 free-agent running backs the Vikings could sign in 2022
By Adam Carlson
Michael Burton – Kansas City Chiefs
The Minnesota Vikings may have Jake Bargas as their current backup to C.J. Ham at fullback, but it couldn’t hurt to bring in some completion for him at the spot without spending a pick to do it in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Michael Burton was a fifth-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions before spending time with Chicago, Washington, and New Orleans before signing with Kansas City for the 2021 season. He has bounced around the league over his seven-year career, but gained experience along the way.
A backup fullback is far from the top priority for the Vikings this season. At this point, it isn’t a lock that Minnesota will even use a fullback going forward under the new front office and coaching staff. But if they do, having quality available for depth is important.
It may seem insignificant, but having an open competition at fullback between Bargas a Burton could allow the Minnesota Vikings to spend a late-round draft pick on a position that is more of a need rather than on a fullback.
