Here’s a couple of picks where the Vikings would do the same thing they did last April if given a second chance.
They used their first fourth-round pick on Kene Nwangwu out of Iowa State to the surprise of many. This guy was known for his blazing speed but fans of the Purple had to wait to see it. He was hurt during the first preseason game, but eventually got on the field about halfway through the year and made an impact.
He was a dynamite return man taking two kicks to the house, striking fear in kickers across the league. He also got worked in a little at running back, rushing for 61 yards on 13 carries. He was a bright spot for a rookie class that didn’t make much noise out of the gate, and his future is exciting.
Speaking of bright futures, Cam Bynum is another pick the Vikings would stay with if given the chance. Bynum was a corner at Cal but the Vikings made it clear on Draft Day that he’d be a safety for them.
With Harrison Smith and Xavier Woods on the roster, Bynum was never expected to make much of an impact but he actually did. Bynum appeared in 14 games and started three of those. He had 28 tackles, an interception, a sack, and broke up three passes.
Bynum showed a little playmaking ability and his coverage skills were very sticky. He’ll compete to start opposite Harrison Smith next season assuming the Vikings keep him, and his upside is through the roof.
