Patrick Peterson – CB

2021 Team: Minnesota Vikings

Patrick Peterson was a fun signing for the Vikings last offseason, and he did an excellent job as the team’s top cornerback throughout the season. However, Peterson is set to turn 32 before next season and will not be a cheap option to re-sign.

Yes, Minnesota needs cornerback help in the worst way but spending their money on an aging guy that did not play at the level we are accustomed to is something that can linger throughout the organization down the road. The better option would be to let the young guys get their feet wet and find players that can stick around longer than a year or two.

Cameron Dantzler has shown a lot of flashes in his first two seasons with the team and should be the top cornerback on the roster heading into 2022. They could still draft a starting-caliber in the first two rounds of the draft and save the money that would otherwise go to Peterson.

Peterson was good for the Vikings, but they were not nearly the contenders that many believed at this time a year ago. That is still true right now and the Vikings should focus on the future rather than trying to win in 2022 with a severely limited roster.

There will be other teams that are true contenders that could use Peterson in the secondary. The 49ers, Eagles, and Chiefs are just a handful of teams that should show interest in Peterson.
