Marcus Williams

2021 Team: New Orleans Saints

Marcus Williams is a name many Vikings fans are quite familiar with. Yes, he made his name infamously missing the tackle on Stefon Diggs to give Minnesota the Minneapolis Miracle. However, he has been one of the best safeties in the NFL during the span of his rookie contract.

He has PFF grades above 70 in every season of his career, grading in the 80s more often than the 70s. He has also been one of the best safeties in the league, according to PFF. These are reasons why Williams will be commanding such a hefty price tag.

The Vikings would need to clear up a good chunk of cap space to sign Williams, and that would be without addressing other positions.

With Harrison Smith signing a lucrative extension last offseason, will Adofo-Mensah want to pour that much capital into his starting safeties? The chances are slim, but if Minnesota is to make a splash in the safety market, it would have to be with Williams as Jessie Bates was franchise tagged by the Bengals.

(Williams has reportedly signed with the Baltimore Ravens according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.)
