Colt McCoy, quarterback (2 yrs, $7.5M – Cardinals)

Honest, nearly any established backup quarterback who signed a reasonable contract could be on this list. After the absolute horror of having to watch Sean Mannion or Trevor Siemian, it would be nice to have a competent backup that can step in and win a game if Cousins is unable to go.

At the moment, it appears as though Kellen Mond would be the backup and Nate Stanley would be behind them on the depth chart. Neither of those is a great option to step in should something happen with “Captain Kirk” this season.

A veteran like Colt McCoy at only $3.75M would be a cheap investment in ensuring competent quarterback play. Last season. McCoy started three games for Arizona and won two of those. He also completed 74.7 percent of his passes in the eight games played last year.

McCoy might be 35 years old, but his experience as a backup would be a welcome addition to a Vikings roster that needs something to root for behind Kirk Cousins until the new coaching staff knows what they have in Kellen Mond.
