Byron Murphy – CB (Arizona Cardinals)

Improving their cornerback group is certainly one of the biggest needs for the Vikings this offseason. And despite signing former Packers corner Chandon Sullivan on Friday, Minnesota should still be looking to add more veteran cornerbacks to their roster this year.

Instead of investing their money into one of the older corners left in free agency, the Vikings should consider making a trade for a younger cornerback that could potentially remain with the team for several seasons.

Current Arizona Cardinals corner Byron Murphy is someone that could be available depending on what Minnesota is willing to give up to acquire him.

After a solid college career at Washington, Arizona selected Murphy in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In his three seasons with the Cardinals, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound cornerback has had his ups and downs, but he’s also had flashes of brilliance.

In 2021, Murphy set new single-season career-highs for pass breakups (12), interceptions (four), and passer rating allowed (87.6). He’s also only been inactive for just one game since 2019, so durability is not an issue for him.

If the Vikings are interested in a young cornerback (just 24-years-old) that still has plenty of potential, making a deal for Murphy this offseason is something they should think about.
