Dan Chisena – WR

In 2020, the Vikings signed former Penn State wide receiver Dan Chisena as an undrafted free agent. It was an odd signing considering Chisena caught a grand total of three passes during his college career at Penn State.

But it turned out Minnesota had a plan for the undrafted receiver.

Chisena has exceptional speed (4.32-second 40-yard dash time) and the Vikings wanted him to be their special teams ace on punt and kickoff coverage.

During the last two seasons, Chisena has accumulated a grand total of six tackles while only playing special teams. During these two years, he also racked up a total of 13 missed tackles. So Chisena being fast doesn’t really mean a whole lot if he can’t tackle anyone.

Roster spots in the NFL are also extremely valuable and Minnesota shouldn’t have one strictly for someone who is a gunner on special teams that can’t tackle.

There are plenty of fast players on the Vikings’ roster who can be a gunner for them next season and also provide them depth at another position at the same time. This is something that Chisena cannot do for Minnesota.
