4 realistic goals for Vikings QB Kirk Cousins in 2022
By Dean Jones
Secure a 60.0 or better QBR
There are several stats that indicate just how well quarterbacks perform throughout the season. Perhaps QBR is the most telling of all.
Kirk Cousins might fill up the stat sheet effectively most of the time, but his QBR has been middle of the pack compared to others across the league over the last two seasons. Even during the Vikings’ impressive campaign in 2019, the signal-caller’s score was only 60.4 and has never been higher than 67.8 out of a possible 100 as a starter.
This might not mean all that much in the grand scheme of things. But if Cousins could get this up to 60.0 or better in 2022, the better Minnesota’s chances will be.
Cousins has the experience and talent to reach this attainable goal. And it’s also worth remembering the potential for improvement now that there is a genuine offensive mind in the head coaching position.
Mike Zimmer obviously prided himself on defensive qualities. So if the shackles come off Cousins in terms of freedom to make plays, then another Pro Bowl-caliber campaign won’t be far behind.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers led the NFL in QBR with 69.1 last season, which played a role in the veteran gaining yet another MVP honor. If Cousins can get over the magic 60 mark, it would likely come with an exceptional campaign at an important time in the player’s career.
