Wide receivers (6)

  • Starters: Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen
  • Backups: Bisi Johnson, Jalen Nailor, K.J. Osborn, Ihmir Smith-Marsette

Justin Jefferson exploded onto the scene during his rookie year for the Minnesota Vikings, setting franchise rookie records for receives. He should be the focal point of the offense while Adam Thielen serves as a complementary player to take pressure off the youngster and be a threat in the red zone.

Having a solid third receiver is important and K.J. Osborn has shown the ability to pick up slack when needed. He and Kirk Cousins have a good rapport and should continue that positive relationship in the new offense.

Returning receivers Bisi Johnson and Ihmir Smith-Marsettte might be fighting for a roster spot or they could both make the roster, leaving the other experienced receiver in camp, Albert Wilson, out in the cold.

However, rookie Jalen Nailor has too much potential for the Vikings not to find a role for him. Even if he doesn’t see the field on offense. being able to put him on the 53 to play special teams or just make sure he isn’t poached from the practice squad is essential.

Tight ends (3)

  • Starter: Irv Smith Jr.
  • Backups: Ben Ellefson, Johnny Mundt

This could be the last chance for Irc Smith Jr. to prove that he can be a starter in the NFL. The Minnesota Vikings used a second-round draft pick on the young man but have yet to see a return on their investment since he struggles to stay on the field. He will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Behind Smith, Johnny Mundt was an early signing when the Vikings’ new regime arrived, giving the impression that he is a player former Rams offensive coordinator turned Vikings head coach has an affinity for. He is mostly unproven.

Ben Ellefson will be used in blocking situations unless Minnesota decides to use C.J. Ham in those instances. Ellefson shined when used as an extra blocker last season and provides value in that role this season.

Many times, players like to keep extra tight ends for special teams play and versatility, but the players behind these individuals on the depth chart are mostly project players who will need time on the practice squad before they can become contributors.
