Three safety packages

As of this writing, first-round draft pick Lewis Cine hasn’t been made a starting safety yet. For now, the returning Camryn Bynum is holding down the spot next to Harrison Smith and might stay there for a while as the rookie grows and develops.

While that might be disappointing to some, it doesn’t mean there are no plans for their top pick. In fact, the purple and gold have been working with some defensive sets that feature all three of those safeties on the field at the same time by moving Cine down into the box.

As Cine continues to adjust to the NFL level and learn what is expected of him by Minnesota, he will inch closer to the starting role that he will eventually have. It seems like only a matter of time until he is in that position.

In the meantime, it’s great that the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff trusts Lewis Cine enough to use him in different roles on defense. When he was drafted, the GM and coach praised his versatility and fans are already starting to see a little of that early in training camp.
