5 players the Vikings must make room for on the final 53
By Adam Carlson
Dan Chisena, wide receiver
It’s easy to forget about Dan Chisena. When a receiver isn’t actively involved in an offense and doesn’t make memorable plays to remind fans of their contributions, it is easy to slip through the cracks.
Chisena is a special teams ace who uses his speed to get to the ball quickly and slow down players who are returning kicks and punts. He is entering his third season with the Minnesota Vikings and looks to be fighting for a spot in a deep wide receiver room.
He will need to prove that his special teams value helps the team more than keeping a high-potential young pass catcher if he wants to make the 53-man roster. He already has some tape on his ability, leaving the decision in the hands of the coaches and GM.
If Chisena is released, he should be able to be scooped up by another team looking to improve their struggling special teams unit. It would be wise for the Minnesota Vikings to keep him, but the cost of cutting a receiver might be too much to pay.
