6 free agent quarterbacks the Vikings could sign in 2024
By Nik Edlund
Quarterback No. 3
Jameis Winston
2023 Team: New Orleans Saints
If the Vikings don't bring back Kirk Cousins and are looking for a placeholder who can take the reigns until a rookie is ready to go, Jameis Winston could be one of the more fun options out there.
Winston is a former first-overall pick, and he's not afraid to sling the football. He'd drool with the weapons at his disposal in Minnesota, and the Vikings' offense could be explosive.
Winston has thrown for over 22,000 yards in his career, with two 4,000-yard seasons and even a 5,100 passing-yard season under his belt.
He isn't afraid to stretch the field and take a big shot, and that shows up with his 141 career touchdowns. The problem with Winston is the interceptions.
In his best season in 2019, Winston threw 33 touchdowns. While that is an impressive number, he also threw 30 interceptions. He takes a lot of risks, and a lot of times, those risks go the wrong way. He also trusts his arm more than he should and simply can't get the ball into the tight windows he thinks he can.
Winston at the helm would be a wild ride. One game, he might toss four touchdowns and no picks, and the next he may do the opposite. The big play would be back in Minnesota, and while an era with Winston at quarterback may not be the most successful one, it would be exciting.
